At first, this seemed like an impossible task. I was commissioned by an individual to create a design of Calvin and Nora. I was given the option of either creating a rotational design or a reflective design. I first tried out a rotational design, but was not pleased with the results, so I went down the much more satisfying (and challenging) path of a mirror design. I’m very please with how it turned out.

Pepsi is Dead

If you look back in the posts, you will see that the original name of this piece was “Coca Cola is Dead”, but many found it to be confusing, so I decided to create a design that was fairly straight-forward in meaning. It is very unfortunate that I had to create this because I happen to be a HUGE Pepsi fan. But since I am also a fan of Coke (fence sitting drinker), I felt I needed to play fair. Enjoy all you Coca Cola fans!!!!

All of you have been so great and supportive of this unique art-form. Thank you so much!! The purpose of this post is to describe the payment process for custom freelance work and also to display the designs that have already been printed and that are ready to sell.

…and yes, the dollar sign you see on your left is an asymmetric rotational ambigram. : )

How to commission new work?

If you want something unique and different from what an ambigram generator will spit out, I’m your guy. Here is the 10 step process…

1. Contact me at XambigramsX@gmail.com.

2. Let me know what type of ambigram you would like. Reflective, Rotational, Chain, Digital, Hand-Drawn, Other…

3. List a few designs from this site that you like.

4. Let me know if the project is for personal or business use.

5. Allow a few days for me to play with the potential design project in order to evaluate how successful the design can be.

6. I will respond with a “go” or “no go” after I’ve played with the project.

7. I will provide you with an estimate of time required to complete the project. I charge out at $20/hour for personal use and $30/hour for business use.

8. I send you a PayPal payment request for half the estimated total cost.

9. Once payment is received, I begin the project and work toward a first or “rough-draft” of the project. I then send you a low resolution image of the first draft.

10. If you like the direction, I complete the project and require the second half of the total payment prior to delivery.

How to buy existing designs?

Send an email to XambigramsX@gmail.com with your order request and your email that is tied to a PayPal account. If you don’t have a PayPal account, no worries…we’ll figure something out. I will then send you a payment request (through PayPal) and it will allow you to pay via secure CC or through your PayPal account directly (which ever is easiest for you). Just let me know. For shipping costs, I will agree to pay for shipping on orders where the total amount is greater than $30 within the United States and will pay up to $3.00 of the total shipping cost for shipments outside of the United States.

The submissions have been posted for the “Old School” ACAC challenge. In this design, I was able to play with old school shading techniques learned way back in high school. I wanted to create something as far away from what a generator would produce as possible. The entirety of the project was drawn with a #7 mechanical pencil. Ouch, I know…but so much fun!!!

This was rather fun. Within a forum on Ambigram.com, fellow ambigram artist Sharath Kumar K commented that I may be able to turn “anything” into a mirror ambigram. Well, I’m not sure if this is what he had in mind. Nikita Prokhorov also designed the same phrase and we have shared results. Amazingly, we attacked the design similarly.

Here are the sketches. I used the scan without any editing other than adding an incredible amount of contrast to the scan to eliminate the grid lines…

After the results were posted, Sharath Kumar K attempted a rotational that was very similar to how I would have attacked the problem, so I decided on trying a mirror design.

Yes, I am a huge Pepsi fan (but also enjoy a Coke now and then), but Pepsi is my preference. Just had to take advantage of this idea after looking at a case of Throwback Pepsi upside-down at a friend’s house. The idea was inspired by the work of John Langdon and Robert Petrick.

It is in a way a symbiotogram with an added letter. I cheated.

This is a MIRROR type ambigram that is symmetric about the Y (or vertical) axis. This started as a quick sketch idea and evolved into a whole design. I enjoyed using the same shape for both the “&” and the “B” in Mabey. Fun Fun.
